Being an artist is a complicated business. Or at least, the way I do it is. I take the deep research behind my work seriously — but I’ve also come to recognise the need to share not just the finished pieces, but the stories, motivations, and reactions that shape them. It’s this kind of storytelling that turns casual viewers into supporters and collectors. In that sense, sharing stories is how you get on with the business of being an artist.
For a long time, I overloaded my Instagram captions with juicy insights. But Instagram isn’t really made for that. Or rather, it is — but the same three people would read, like, and comment. So the question is: how do you share your voice and your art in a way that cultivates a receptive audience and builds a supportive creative community? Well. Hello, Substack. We meet again.
I’m writing here to share the stories behind my artwork: the research, the process, and the modest breakthroughs in the studio — to build a slower, more intentional connection with those curious about how art comes into being, and who might one day want to live with a piece of it.
While I aim for a monthly rhythm, the truth is: it comes when it comes. I’m more interested in developing my own intellectual authority and speaking in my own voice than in feeding algorithms.
